4 GCSE's to include a Grade 4/C in English, Grade 3/D in maths and 2 other GCSE Grades at 3/D.
If you have not attained GCSE grades 4-9 in English and Maths, you will automatically be enrolled in classes to work towards these qualifications at an appropriate level to suit your ability.
This Level 2 course allows you to understand the various aspects to the Hospitality and Catering industry and gain valuable practical and teamwork skills and work towards the technical Level 3 qualification.
By studying this course, you will learn the following:
- Boiling, poaching and steaming
- Stewing and braising
- Baking, roasting and grilling
- Deep frying and shallow frying
- Cold food preparation
- The structure of professional kitchens
- Working as a professional chef
- Understanding knives, tools and equipment
- Working safely in the kitchens
You will be required to complete a minimum of 35 hours' work experience whilst completing your culinary course over the academic year.
Upon completion of this course, you have the opportunity to do the Level 3 Diploma in Professional Cookery, Patisserie and Confectionery or Professional Food and Beverage Service Supervision or an Advanced Apprenticeship.
Possible careers include: Bartender, Caterer, Chef, Cleaner, Concierge, Housekeeper, Kitchen Assistant/Porter, Receptionist, Sommelier, Food Service Assistant, and Waiter/Waitress.
With the Advanced Technical Diploma, you can become a Commis Chef, Demi Chef de Partie or Pastry Chef.
