Level 2 Certificate in Accounting - Part Time (AAT)

This qualification will prepare you for entry level accounting roles in a wide range of jobs and organisations. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping to basic costing principles and provides an overview of the business environment. This introductory AAT qualification is the starting point to learn and progress in accounting.

The course will introduce students to the double-entry bookkeeping system, and associated documents and processes. Students will reach the stage of extracting an initial trial balance, before any adjustments are made. The course provides students with the skills necessary to operate a manual double-entry bookkeeping system and provides a strong foundation for progression to more advanced manual and computerised activities. In addition, students will learn about control accounts, journals and methods of payment. Students will examine the reconciliation processes in bookkeeping, the use of the journal and re-drafting the trial balance, following initial adjustments.

Students will also learn how a business classifies product and service costs, budgeting, variance analysis and use spreadsheets to support cost calculations. Finally, students will be introduced to contract law, the external business environment, corporate social responsibility, ethics, sustainability, setting up business entities, the finance function in organisations, and communication.
