This course is taught at our Middleton Campus in Middleton, Greater Manchester. In particular, it’s located in our state-of-the-art Advanced Engineering and Technology Centre.

The building is one of the most sought-after places for trades-based training in the region – featuring 6,500 square-metres of the newest and most cutting edge equipment.

You’ll spend most of your time in our purpose designed Multi Skills Training Centre, where you’ll study brickwork, carpentry, painting and decorating, plastering and a variety of outdoor grounds-work maintenance activities.

You can look forward to working with our expert tutors who themselves have worked across a range of industries. They’ll teach you the basics as you decide which career path you want to follow.

This Level 1 Certificate course is a great way to start your training in an environment where you’ll be encouraged to throw yourself into a range of different disciplines before progressing to focus on a single one at Level 2.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required.

Details

You'll study a wide range of units which are designed to give you the grounding to decide upon which route you'd like to follow in the construction industry.

The following topics will provide you with the knowledge and skills to allow you to progress to the next level of study:

  • Painting and decorating trade repairs plastering trade repairs

  • Brickwork trade repairs

  • Carpentry and Joinery trade repairs

  • Tiling trade repairs

  • Plumbing

  • Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries

  • Knowledge of construction technology

  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others

  • Developing customer relationships

Work Experience

There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course.

However, the Multi Skills Training Centre is designed to replicate a workplace environment and will allow you to feel comfortable in a professional setting.

In addition, you will be encouraged to show off your talents in cross-college skills competitions.

Progression

This course is perfect for allowing you to progress with your studying, most likely through choosing a single trade to study at Level 2. However, you may prefer to train through an apprenticeship.
