JOIN THE TECHNICAL SKILLS REVOLUTION AND TAKE YOUR LEARNING TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH HOPWOOD HALL COLLEGE

t-levels

T-Levels are the qualifications that everyone is talking about! Having been designed as an exciting alternative to A-Levels, they combine classroom learning with on-the-job industry experience to ensure a fantastic career trajectory for all students.

We were thrilled to launch our first T-Levels in September 2021. While we initially offered four routes, the courses have been so popular that we are added two additional routes in September 2022 and there are even more to come for September 2023.

This means that there's plenty of options for anyone who is ready to join the technical skills revolution by studying T-Levels!

what are t-levels?

T-Levels have been described as the biggest overhaul in post-school education for 70 years. This pioneering programme is a brilliant opportunity for school leavers looking for a solid route into employment, higher apprenticeships or Higher Education.

The qualifications have been shaped by employers and benefit from the unique insights of industry leaders. This means learners will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to get ahead in the modern jobs market.

Delivered over a two-year period, T-Levels provide an excellent alternative to A-Levels and are aimed at 16 to 19-year-olds who would rather study work-related courses than traditional academic subjects. They have been launched to counter the long-held assumption that only A-Levels can lead to a degree and a fulfilling job. It’s worth noting that as a T-Level student you will still be able to progress to university or higher-level technical qualifications.

T-Levels have been created by national panels made up of expert employers. They are designed to deliver the necessary skills required to strengthen and grow the UK economy. They will provide a mix of industry-specific technical knowledge and practical skills; relevant maths, English and digital skills as well as a work placement of at least 45 days.

These new two-year, Level 3 technical education courses follow GCSEs and are revolutionising technical education in the UK. Developed in close collaboration with employers, content directly meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work or university. T-Levels are ideal if you have finished your GCSEs and want the knowledge and experience to give your career a head start and get straight into employment, an apprenticeship or higher education.

what do t-levels involve?

T-Levels components include: employability skills, numeracy, literacy and digital skills, concepts and theories, and occupational specialisms.

As an integral part of the T-Level, learners complete a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days) in an industry placement, where your focus will be on developing practical and technical skills. The placement will be with an employer in a real life working environment. You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on industry placement giving you the chance to experience a real workplace setting while continuing your studies.

industry placements

High quality industry placements are an integral part of T-Levels. They are crucially important in enabling you to gain the valuable skills needed to progress onto employment.

This work experience will be a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days). Placements can be undertaken as a block, over college holidays for example, or as individual days. This arrangement depends on what works best for the student and employer.

Industry placements give you the opportunity to develop your practical and technical skills in a role directly relevant to your vocational course. They also give employers the chance to ensure that their new generation of employees are developing precisely the skills and experience that industry needs.

WHO'S SUITED FOR A T-LEVEL?

A differentiating factor of T-Levels is the combination of both classroom learning and development and practical application of occupationally-specific skills.

As such, a T-Level would suit a student who wants to enter skilled employment at the end of their course.

Although T-Levels are primarily designed for entry into skilled employment, they will also allow progression to a higher apprenticeship or to Higher Education in a related area.

Students should normally have a clear idea about which industry they want to get into and an idea of the type of job role they’d like to explore.
