Triumph for Hopwood Hall College’s sports students
Hopwood Hall College hosted the 2016 Greater Manchester Colleges Group Games last week…and won for the second year running.
They competed in five events: Fitness, Coaching, Current Affairs in Sport, Multi-sports and Crossfit.
People from various sport-related organisations generously gave up their time to be part of the judging panel, including the Rochdale Hornets, Amaven and Greater Sport Manchester. Sport4real and Crossfit Oldham helped fund the event by sponsoring it.
After a gruelling day of events at the Middleton campus, Hopwood Hall College was crowned overall winner with 2nd place going to Salford City College and 3rd place to Trafford College.
WBA Lightweight World Boxing Champion and ex-Hopwood Hall College sport Student Anthony Crolla handed out the prizes.
Centre Director for Sport and Public Services Terry Morley said: “This was a fantastic event and even more rewarding winning it again for the second year.
“The level of ability and fitness was amazing.
“The learners from the colleges were an absolute credit to their tutors and did themselves proud. They were all smart, polite and most of all, displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout all the events.
“It is a real honour to watch this much talent coming through our doors and see them begin to follow in the footsteps of some of our amazing ex-students, such as Anthony Crolla.”
