Students secure silverware at GM Skills Competitions

Students from Hopwood Hall College maintained their college's reputation for success by bringing home numerous placings at the Greater Manchester Colleges Group Skills Competitions 2019.

In total they secured the overall winner's shield in the Business (for the second consecutive year), Art & Design, Games Design, Construction and Performing Arts competitions. In the IT competition, the Hopwood Hall College team missed out on first spot by just one point.

The competition is a collaborative event run by Greater Manchester's vocational colleges, with each college hosting a certain round of the competition. Hopwood Hall College's Riverside Restaurant in Rochdale hosted the catering round of the competition.

Outside of the overall categories, in the individual categories there were winners in the following:

  • Electrical Installation Level 2 (Nick Stigwood)
  • Painting & Decorating Level 2 (Abigail Percy)
  • Plumbing Level 2 (Thomas Maloney)
  • Acting Level 3
  • Music Level 2
  • Musical Theatre Level 2
Hopwood Hall College also had eight other individual runner ups in:

  • Travel & Tourism Enterprise
  • Mechanical Engineering CAD Level 2 (Connor Wilson)
  • Bench Joinery Level 2 (Jake Holt)
  • Media Makeup Level 2
  • Beauty Therapy Level 3
