College staff fast for community friends
Staff members from Hopwood Hall College linked up with Neeli Mosque in Rochdale to take part in a sponsored fast for charity.
With Neeli Mosque looking to improve education services and the relationships of those services in the local community, staff members from the College decided to help their community partner’s efforts with a full-day charity fast, sunrise to sunset.
Waking up at 2am to eat and drink before 3am, for the rest of the day they had no food or drink up until 9pm, but received plenty of support from their fellow fasters both regular and for charity.
In total they managed to raise £350 for Neeli Mosque, something Zahir Ihsan, representative of the mosque, was very proud of:

“Neeli Mosque were delighted to have Hopwood Hall College’s Principal and staff attend our ‘Unity Iftar’ during Ramadan.
“What we weren’t prepared for though, was to be told that after the event Hopwood Hall College staff members had decided to hold a sponsored fast (no easy feat at this time of year!).
“The funds raised will be put towards our new Wellbeing Centre, which is currently under construction and will enable us to offer more and improved education services to the community. The amount raised was fantastic, but more importantly to have the spirit of unity displayed so brilliantly is what shines out most.
“Hopwood Hall staff have demonstrated a vital lesson to be learnt for all. We very much look forward to working further with the College on future projects and educational courses, to achieve our common aim of benefitting Rochdale and beyond.”
