The role will;

  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of a highly effective Personal Development Programme (tutorial) that supports learners throughout their journey from induction to progression, leading to excellent outcomes and positive future destinations for our learners.
  • Oversee a number of critical areas; the PDP tutorial programme, the retention and improvement support, the engagement and enrichment offer and the careers and work experience programme.
  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of a highly effective retention and improvement structure that supports learners throughout their journey ensuring excellent attendance and achievement outcomes plus positive futures for our learners.
  • Support the Assistant Principal for fully preparing teams for external inspection in line with the Education Inspection Framework, personal development, behaviour and attitudes and employability agendas and the Colleges strategic directions.

Purpose

The post holder will be expected to:

Duties

Personal Development Programme (Tutorials)

Design and implement a tutorial and induction programme that ensures all learners develop key study, employability and transferable skills to support progression into a positive destination.

Oversee the tutorial and iLearn provision, ensuring that all learners receive their induction and tutorial entitlement and are set challenging targets which are effectively monitored and lead to positive outcomes. Work closely with Progress Tutors to establish appropriate quality standards ensuring the consistency and effectiveness of the personal development programme.

Provide effective mentoring and support for a team of Progress Tutors to ensure that the tutorial entitlement meets the needs of learners. This includes monitoring and evaluating the programme against the agreed KPIs and when needed, developing improvements and implementing them.

To provide quality assurance and quality improvement for the Progress Tutor team against agreed targets.

To carry out observations of personal development tutorials.

Manage the set up on ProMonitor to ensure that all learners exceed and progress into their intended destinations.

Carry out audits of Individual Leaning Plans and academic targets and report findings to senior leaders.

To have a teaching commitment of 216 hours.

Retention and Improvement

Lead the design and implementation of strategies to drive improved attendance, retention and achievement that exceed college targets.

Manage and coordinate the work of the Senior Retention and Improvement Officer and support them leading the team of Retention and Improvement Officers.
Ensure the Retention and Improvement roles become an integral part of both the Student Support and Curriculum Management teams andthat they proactively support the achievement of high levels of attendance from students.
Monitor impact and implementation of the Retention and Improvement roles ensuring they are having a positive impact and where improvements are needed, lead on providing solutions and supporting the implementation of any new initiatives.

Enrichment and Engagement

Lead on the development and implementation of the College’s Learner Engagement and Enrichment Strategy ensuring all learners have access to a wide range of opportunities to enhance their experience.

Manage the Engagement and Enrichment Coordinators to plan, promote and coordinate enrichment and engagement activities for all levels of learners across the college.

Working closely with the Assistant Principal, lead on learner voice, planning the learner voice activities across the year and share this with curriculum to ensure clarity and maximum participation. Ensure that learner feedback leads to quality improvements.

Lead on the design and implementation of the college’s Parental Engagement policy.

Keep professionally up to date with teaching, learning and assessment including digital learning and technology developments plus enrichment and the whole college experience and ensure that all staff within the teams are similarly professionally updated.

Careers and Destinations

Manage the Senior Careers Advisor to identify and disseminate a learner entitlement to career management and personal development activities, including access to impartial guidance and individual support – create and lead on an implementation plan for the delivery of the College Careers Strategy

Lead, plan, implement and evaluate provision and practice in relation to the programme, with the active participation of staff, learners and other contributors. To regularly self-assess against the Gatsby Benchmarks to inform improvement and development plans

To provide an annual written report on the quality and impact of the programme, supported by a current strategy and development plan

To advise the Assistant Principal and others on policy and development priorities within the programme and how these contribute to organisational priorities such as raising achievement, progression and inclusion

To establish and maintain effective links with parents, carers and relevant organisations (e.g. employers, HE providers, Apprenticeship providers, youth and community agencies), and co-ordinate their contribution to the programme.

Actively contribute to College management groups including the Curriculum Management Team.

Prepare budgets and control expenditure within agreed limits for all areas and ensure that strategies developed are cost effective and provide good return on investment.

To conduct a range of observation of teaching, learning & assessment activities, including classroom based, workplace, cross college activities, on/off site & quality audits to support identified College priorities
