Nazir Afzal OBE

Nazir was appointed Chair of the Hopwood Hall College Corporation on 1 September 2018 Nazir has an extensive background of working across a range of public sector organisations, in particular acting as a Justice Consultant; Chief Executive, Police & Crime Commissioners for England & Wales; and, as Chief Crown Prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service.

Nazir has gained a number of awards in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession and his work in highlighting such issues as gender-based violence, domestic abuse, mentoring in deprived areas, social housing and cohesion.

His aims for Hopwood Hall College are for the College to:

  • build on its excellent reputation for the provision of high quality education and to make it the first choice for Rochdale learners wishing to study vocational and professional qualifications;
  • continue to play a full and significant role is serving the needs of all learners in Rochdale and the wider community; and,
  • play a significant role in the development of Greater Manchester as a whole.
