Matthew Ashton

  • Winger at Warrington Wolves
  • Level 3 Diploma in Sport

Wanting to pursue his passion for sport, Matthew chose to study at Hopwood Hall College after his school recommended the famously successful rugby programme and its facilities.

During his studies Matthew achieved huge success as part of one of the college’s most decorated rugby teams. Matthew was part of the all-conquering team that won, amongst a great many other accolades, the National Cup in both the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons.

After completing his studies, Matthew went on to play for Rochdale Mayfield Rugby Club, played in Australia for the Mullumbimby Giants in New South Wales before returning to the UK to play for Swinton Lions, where in 2019 he won the Championship Young Player of the Year.

Matthew has since signed for Warrington Wolves and currently plays in the Super League.

“My experience at Hopwood Hall College was amazing, I made some really great friends I’m still in contact with now. Spending five days of the week in training, competing for trophies and studying in theory classes gave us a real bond.

“At college I learned not to panic, because the amount of help the tutors give you is very good and they will push you to be your best. But the main thing I would say is enjoy it. If you do ever change your mind on what path you want to follow, it’s never too late.”
