- Coach for City Football Schools at the Chinese Ministry of Education
- BTEC National Diploma in Sport
Mark joined Hopwood Hall College after he was let go from the Rochdale AFC Academy as a teenager. Wanting to make sure he had educational qualifications to fall back on should his dream of being a footballer not come to fruition, Mark enrolled on a BTEC National Diploma in Sport.
His backup plan paid off. Mark has since studied at Sheffield Hallam University and now works as a football coach for City Football Schools; one of Manchester City’s global coaching programmes.
Based in China, Mark is part of a team coaching over 350,000 youngsters in a bid to transform the football culture in China and raise the profile of the sport as the country attempts to host the World Cup in the near future.
“Working in China has been a great experience. I have been able to coach local young players in developing football regions, sharing my knowledge and passion with individuals who have a thirst to improve their football skills.
”The best advice I can give someone is to aim for your top dream because even if you just miss out on that one, the next one down is still going to be big.”
