Lenai Marshall

  • Finance Administrator at BLM
  • Business Admin Apprenticeship

After initially studying A-Levels, Lenai soon realised that she would benefit more from learning in the workplace than she would in the classroom.

Lenai knew she wanted to gain experience in a professional, office-based environment to prepare her for a career in the finance industry. So, she applied for a Business Administration apprenticeship at Hopwood Hall College she had seen advertised through the college’s apprenticeship team.

After becoming a key member of the college’s Quality Department, Lenai secured a finance role at insurance and law specialists BLM. She now aims to progress within the financial industry into a management role.

“During my apprenticeship, I learned an awful lot about how to carry myself as a professional and developed my practical skills in IT and company protocols. It also made me a much more confident person and I’ve gained a real head start on my career.

“People around me made A-Levels seem like the only way forward. However, I knew it didn’t suit me as I much prefer the option of studying and working; so I took the decision to do an apprenticeship instead.

“I think that was an important lesson, what you think is best for you usually is.”
