Jessica knew she wanted to pursue her passion for animals and applied to join Hopwood Hall College after hearing about the College’s outstanding reputation for animal-based studies.
For Jessica, the most valuable lessons were learnt through hands-on experience, which is one of the main reasons she gained over 1000 hours of work experience during her studies.
“I’ll never forget the Sunday mornings spent helping the technicians with the animals no matter what the weather. The course definitely taught me a life lesson - hard work pays off.
“Aside from the practical work, I also really enjoyed learning how the subjects of health, welfare, behaviour and feeding all interlink and affect each other, something which I wouldn’t necessarily have learnt through completing an A-level.
“My current job is extremely busy however very rewarding. Some of my job roles include carrying out assessments to ensure the dogs are sociable, working with students and teaching them how to read canine body language, and obviously working with the dogs. Each dog has its own unique personality and it’s so fun to work with a wide range of dog breeds - they are all very different!”
