Heather Wightman

  • Studying Architecture at the University of Huddersfield
  • Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

After attending a number of Open Days, Heather chose Hopwood Hall College after tutors instilled confidence in the Mechanical Engineering courses and the quality of the facilities.

Initially, Heather studied an Apprenticeship in Engineering with Hopwood Hall College. As she studied alongside her apprenticeship job role, Heather learned more about the industry and the jobs available.

Her expanded knowledge of the industry led to a desire to study Architecture at university, progressing from her apprenticeship onto a BTEC Level 3 Extended diploma at Hopwood Hall College to achieve her goal.

“Schools only give basic information on careers, so I found it very important to do your own research about the many different job types that are out there.

“I didn’t know you could study an Architecture degree at university by gaining a BTEC qualification at a vocational college until I did my own research. I’m glad I found this out because it’s the information that has led me down this career path and to a degree at The University of Manchester.”
