Ellie Hughes

  • Carpentry Apprentice at Rochdale Boroughwide Housing
  • Level 3 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery

Ellie initially studied Carpentry at another college, but wasn’t satisfied with the overall learning experience. After a taster session at Hopwood Hall College’s Technology Centre, Ellie met with tutors and saw the facilities; leading to her making the switch to Hopwood Hall College.

Looking back at her studies, Ellie credits her tutors with giving her direction and helping her develop professionally. Her tutors also highlighted the opportunities an apprenticeship could provide someone with her skills.

Once she had gained her level 3 qualification, Ellie met with the college’s apprenticeship team and started a Carpentry & Joinery apprenticeship with RBH, where she now renovates and restores houses in the Borough of Rochdale.

“After not enjoying my time at another college, it was refreshing to come to Hopwood Hall College. The facilities were much better and my tutors looked after me. The same applies for my apprenticeship at RBH.

“One of the lessons I’ve learned is to pursue what you enjoy and be willing to try different things. You have to try whatever opportunities come by.”
