FOUNDATION DEGREE EARLY YEARS CHILDHOOD STUDIES Course summary This course prepares you for a range of careers in childcare at supervisory management level and can provide an appropriate pathway for gaining Early Years Teaching Status (EYTS). Course content The course is made up of 11 compulsory modules including a specialist module that will enable you to study a particular area in more depth. Level 4 modules • Study Skills and Personal Development Planning • The Developing Child • Social Policy for Early Years • Learning in the Digital Age • Facilitating Children’s Learning • Inclusive Practice Level 5 modules • Safeguarding Children • Creating positive Learning Experiences for Children • Developing Self-Reflective Practice • Research Perspectives Level 5 specialist module • Independent Research Project All students are required to undertake relevant work experience, this can be in employment or a work placement. You are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours a week working with children aged from birth to 8 years. Location: Middleton Duration: 2 years full-time 3 years part-time Start date: September 2023/January 2024 Fees: £6000 per year full-time (Total course cost £12000 2 years full-time) £4000 per year part-time (Total course cost £12000 3 years part-time) There is no charge for a DBS for all students undertaking volunteer work placement. Entry requirements: 80 UCAS tariff points which could include: 2 or more A Levels BTEC/Edexcel National Level 3 Level 3 Diploma (Early Years Educator) GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above Mature students can apply with no formal qualifications but with a minimum of three years relevant industry experience. A formal literacy diagnostic and comprehension assessment will be required to assess academic capability.
