LEVEL 5 DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING Course summary The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET), formerly known as the Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), is an exciting new addition to our suite of teacher training qualifications. It is the recognised teaching qualification for the post-16 and adult sector. The course is equivalent to the second year of a UK bachelor’s degree, and is a popular route for prospective teachers who want to pursue a career in Further Education (FE), or currently hold an FE teaching role and want to gain a full teaching qualification. You can apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status once you’ve successfully completed your Level 5 training. QTLS is equivalent to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England, and allows you to work as a qualified teacher in state schools as well as FE colleges. Our 2 year part-time course is open to inservice and pre-service candidates. Course content Year 1 • Teaching Learning and Assessment • Theories, Principles and Models Year 2 • Developing Teaching Learning and Assessment • Wider Professional Practice Three additional modules will be selected according to demand e.g. ESOL, Inclusive Practice, Action Research, Developing Resources. Location: Middleton Duration: 2 years part-time Start date: September 2023 Fees: £4500 (£2250 per year) Entry requirements: Level 2 (GCSE) skills in English and Maths. (You will undertake an initial assessment to demonstrate suitable levels of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills before admission.) A minimum Level 3 qualification in your specialist subject area. You must also meet some non-academic requirements, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and declaration of criminal convictions. 52
