“The best thing about the beauty therapy course is the fact that we spend most of our time in a real working salon environment. I feel that I’ve gained some great experience from my time on the course so far, not only in actually doing the treatments but also in learning about the day to day running of a salon, as we also do all of the related paperwork. The salons are very professional and we have all of the equipment we need to help us succeed on the course. I enjoy doing all the treatments but my favourites are manicures and facials. When I finish the course I hope to work my way up to being a therapist in a top spa.”
Jake McGrath went to St Cuthbert’s RC High School in Rochdale
“What I’ve really enjoyed about my first year at college has been the laid back atmosphere on the course and the fact that I’ve made so many new friends. When I first came to Hopwood Hall I didn’t know anybody at all and so I was a bit worried that I would be on my own, but I needn’t have been; most of the other students were in the same boat as me and I soon made some great friends on my course. My dad is a student on the Access course (a college course for adults) at Hopwood Hall and that is how I decided to come and study here too. So far I’ve really been enjoying the First Diploma in Retail, especially learning about how stores advertise and market their brands. Trips to The Trafford Centre and Urbis were a great interactive way to see the course content actually being put into practice, as well as being a fun day out with my classmates. We also had a visit from one of the chief executives of Virgin Media who spoke to us about the company’s operations, especially on the retail side.”
Hayley Warrender went to Our Lady’s RC Sports College, Blackley
“I decided to come and study the National Diploma in Sport at Hopwood Hall after speaking to the school liaison team at a careers fair in school. I’d always been into sport at school and this course allowed me to take my interest further and to study something that I really enjoy. I really love studying at the Middleton Campus; the surroundings are great, especially in summer as there is lots of outdoor space. I’m really enjoying college life and I’ve made loads of new friends since starting here. I have joined the netball team and have been on a number of course trips including swimming and paintballing. After my course I hope to go to The University of Salford to study podiatry.”
