Cengiz Karabulut went to Falinge Park High School, Rochdale
“I am really into computers so I was happy when I found out that Hopwood Hall College offered a practical course where I could dedicate my time to learning more about IT and how computers work. The best thing I have done so far on the course is learn how to create my own website and I have also made loads of friends at the college. Last year our course tutors took us on visits to Salford University and Manchester Metropolitan University where we could have a look round and take part in some of the lessons. That helped me as now I know what grades I need to achieve to get a place, and what to expect when I get there. If university is anything like college then I’m sure I’ll have a great time.”
Rebecca Wrigley went to Cardinal Langley RC High School, Middleton
“I studied GCSE Leisure & Tourism at school and found I had a real interest in the subject, so decided to take it further by enrolling at Hopwood Hall College on the travel & tourism course. This year I’ve had loads of fun, made lots of friends and travelled to Paris, York, Blackpool and the Lake District. As part of the visits, we were put into groups and took turns organising the excursions and activities for our classmates and tutors. Everyone gets on here and I particularly like the fact it’s all coursework instead of exams, which for me is great. Ultimately I would really like to work at Manchester International Airport as there are so many job opportunities there.”
Shaun Proctor went to Oulder Hill Community School, Rochdale
“College is a lot better than I thought it would be. One of the best things is although it’s hard work, I have a lot more freedom than at school and I’ve made loads of new friends. The tutors are really helpful and easy to get on with but at the same time, they push you to do the best you can on the course. I decided to come to Hopwood Hall after visiting the open day and seeing all the great facilities. The engineering course is ideal for me as I really like the practical hands-on aspect of it and hopefully it will lead me into a good career after college.”
Samantha Renshaw went to Whitworth Community High School, Rochdale
“I originally came to the Hopwood Hall open day to look at courses in hair and beauty but when I got here I realised that it really wasn’t the right subject for me! I’m so much more suited to the electrical installation course and I definitely have no regrets about the choice I made. I’m really enjoying the course so far and I’m doing well in all of my lessons. This year I was really proud to be named student of the year for my course because of my attendance and attitude towards my work. All of my classmates are really nice and there is a really good atmosphere in the workshops. I would recommend this course to anyone; the only downside is that my family keep asking me to do all of their electrical DIY for them! When I finish my course I hope to get an apprenticeship in electrical installation and to go on to have a successful career in the trade.”
