Access to Higher Education

What is Access to HE?

Access courses are designed for students who wish to seek a fast-track route to university or to progress to a wide range of careers and vocations. Hopwood Hall College’s Access courses have featured heavily in the college’s success stories in recent years – changing the lives of many students.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entry to our four Access programmes is determined by students’ existing qualifications and each pathway has different entry criteria reflecting the requirements of Higher Education degree programmes. All pathways have mandatory units in Academic Essay Writing and Research Skills. Please be aware that successful completion of an Access to HE Diploma does not guarantee a place at university.

Immediate entry to the one-year Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma programme offers students who have the entry requirements – usually 4-5 GCSEs at grade A-C - the quickest route to university. English and Maths GCSE at grade A-C are required for both entry to the Health and Humanities pathways and GCSE Science at grade A-C is usually needed for the Health pathways.

For those students who don’t meet the entry criteria for Level 3, successful completion of the one-year Level 2 programme guarantees progression to Level 3 the following academic year. Entry to this programme will require an initial assessment of English and Maths. Assessment in Science is also required for students wishing to take a Science GCSE and progress to a Health pathway at Level 3.

FEES

Fees for our Access courses vary according to an individual’s circumstances. For the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma, students aged 24+ must apply for funding through the 24+ FE loan scheme. For current information on the fees of Access courses please contact the Student Advisers at the College.
