I attended the college in the 60’s as a student and gained all my qualifications for the Carpentry & Joinery trade to Advanced Craft. I worked in industry for the next 10 years covering all aspects of house building in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I started my own building company and started the refurbishment of houses around Castleton and Rochdale, my brother and myself were responsible for the building of 3 houses for clients from foundations to completion in the late 80’s early 90’s. I went back to college to complete a Cert Ed at Bolton Tech and was fortunate to undertake Teaching Practice at Rochdale. I held a temporary teaching post for 3 years and was then made permanent.
I was born in Castleton and have spent my working life trying to improve houses both for public and private enterprise. I am a keen golfer and have been for 20 years. I became Captain and Managing Director for Manchester Golf Club and have been Chairman of 3 sub-committees within the organisation.
I feel I can offer the thoughts and aspirations of staff and students at the Rochdale Campus. I am used to committee work and work well within team surroundings. Being a resident and taxpayer in Rochdale all my life I have had good experiences of Rochdale as a town. The college environment needs to be supported and I feel it should have a greater input into the lives of people in Rochdale.
