Cheryl Eastwood

Cheryl took up the post of Executive Director Children’s Services in Rochdale on 15th March 2010, having previously worked as Deputy Director, Services for Children and Young People at Tameside Council. She has worked in the field of children’s services for over 30 years, the past 20 of them in management.

Cheryl’s background is in social work. She has experience of general child care social work as well as specialist work with young offenders. As a manager Cheryl has been responsible for a whole range of children’s services including children’s social care, children’s centres, youth services , multi-agency services for children with disabilities ,services for young offenders and support services such as performance,  planning and finance. Cheryl has led on a great deal of partnership work including the development of the child concern model in Bolton and Tameside’s children’s trust arrangements and has been an elected member. 

Before taking up post at Tameside Council, Cheryl was the North West Director of NCH, the children’s charity (now Action for Children).  She was previously Assistant Director of Social Services (children) at Bolton Council and has also worked for Oldham, Kirklees and Salford Councils.

When Cheryl first moved ‘up north’ from Bournemouth, prior to studying at Manchester University, she lived in Castleton. She met her husband, who’s from Middleton, when she was training to be a social worker at Heywood Social Services 30 years ago. Cheryl is now doubly delighted to have achieved her ambition of being Director of Children’s Services and to be working in Rochdale.
